Post  deborah Sun Mar 20, 2011 8:43 pm

Hey again Glassman,

So cool to see the piccoli vase from here on the site on your site! Glad it got there safely but it wasn't the hardest one to shipLOL.

It's a chick - Chalet catalogue #709. I used to think it was a "rubber ducky"LOL

Re the lime green and red - all I can say is drool...................

Glassman, I was looking at your pictures again just to remind myself the variety of Chalet there is out there and I found this lovely basket. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] It's Skrdlovice, Czechoslovakia, designed by Milena Veliskova. I tried to leave a comment but I'm not on Yahoo.

Thanks for all the photos you've got on your site. It's one I go back to frequently.

Then I found this one which must be neodymium glass that changes from from pink to blue. Did Lorraine do neodymium? If not it might be Czech again.

That little basket vase is really cool,it glows so bright. The colour is really different on it as well.I will change the name on it.Can you recomend any good books or sites on Czech glass?I have no idea about those weird pink ones, everytime i look at them they change colour.Maybe it's like mood glass lol. They are just similar in shape to Lorraine but it would not suprise me if they were czech.Any idea about that weird orange winged ashtray?

Glassman:

The best general purpose book on post WW II Czech glass is Mark Hill, Hi Sklo, Lo Sklo published in 2008. The photos are good and the book covers the range of Czech glass that we are likely to see in North America, even although the book was published in Britain. A good website, run by Jindrich Parik, a really great guy, is [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] It's not easy to get around at first but worth trying a few times.

I came across another piece of yours that is really interesting. I was about to say it was Czech, too, when I noticed you said your piece was signed "Canada Art." I have a very similar piece that I've been told is Czech. I checked it out with a uv light and it glows exactly like yours does, green and orange. Mine is a salmon pink with a touch of green at the bottom. I was asking a friend who knows Czech glass very well and he still thinks mine is Czech and he sent me a photo he got from a collector in Prague of as piece very much the same. The pieces really puzzle me now.

Your piece is [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

I will try and find that book, sounds really interesting.I will check out that site too.The Czech glass is just as nice as any other. You should check out cindy's post she has two vases which i think are Czech too.Maybe i will start a Czech collection,i see lots of it.I came across a labelled Japanese piece that i think i will pick up.I'm starting to wounder if Canada Art is kind of a Knock off. They are simalar ti Czech.I have 3 pieces in my collection now.Did you see the plum coloured one?It glows Green and orange too.

Thanks Again

More Pictures Empty the mystery that is "Canada Art"

Post  deborah Wed Mar 23, 2011 11:01 pm

Hi Glassman and langhaugh,

Canada Art is a pain in the $%$#@#$. I have heard that it was a very small house in Montreal but if that is so - why has not one of the Chalet artists heard of them? Also I met a fellow, Bruno Andros, at the exhibit - a young glass blower from Montreal who was doing his thesis on the birth and rise of art glass in Quebec - he had no info and had never heard of them and he has intreviewed many, many, many glass artists.

I bought a signed Chalet cigar bowl in purple as I had a signed Canada Art cigar bowl in the same colour - I am going to have them photographed together. The Canada Art looks like a big lump beside it. I think they might be a rip off too but if so - one that has definitely been influenced by Chalet ..................

A mystery - but, once more a really good excuse for buying glass in the name of research!

More Pictures Empty Mystery

Post  Glassman Thu Mar 24, 2011 2:36 pm

It seems like the pieces i've had are simalar to Chalet or Czech. So maybe they just copied what they knew was popular. Also what if all pieces were not signed?Like that plum one that was posted on here. That would mean there is a whole lotta mystery glass out there. All the Canada art ones i've had are super heavy and all glow.So they used lots of uranium. Most are ugly but the amber one and the green one i have are actually very nice.
