Again, some very nice pieces and some amazing prizes. I never see them for those prices around here, but perhaps I don't look enough. I'm struck by the second and third ones down in the right hand column. Are they both marked Chalet? I have s Czech piece that's very similar to the third one down, the ears on mine being vertical rather than horizontal as they apper to be on yours. See what you think.

More Pictures Empty Ashtrays

Post  Glassman Sat Jan 08, 2011 4:59 pm

Do you mean the blue and amber ashtrays? The blue one is a commom Lorraine piece,i had one in green with a made in Canada sticker on it.The Amber one is hand signed Canada Art.The Czech ones a nice too and it is hard to tell them apart. The purple one with the 3 arms that just go upwards and touch at the top, could maybe be czech.Let me know what you think.I've been collecting for a long long time,i'm always looking and know where to find the good deals.Maybe sometimes i just luck out.

Thanks for the reply and the information. I'm terrible with colours so just to be sure we're talking about the same peices I'll link them.

The first piece is [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Have you ever found out anything about Canada Art? What a find for $10!

The second piece is also signed Canada Art on the bottom. Does it have any green in it without the UV light?
It's [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

PS [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] I'd say definitely Murano.

Yes those are the ones, and thanks for doing that.No i don't know much about Canada Art.Most i've had were ashtrays or tall baskets.I've seen some nice purple ones too. That green one was buried under a bunch of china at a flea market, the guy was more than happt to let it go.I should have tried for 5 bucks. It glows so nicley under a black light too.

More Pictures Empty Canada Art

Post  deborah Sat Jan 08, 2011 11:59 pm

Hey guys,

I know a little - very little about Canada Art. It WAS NOT connected to Chalet in any way like a boutique marking - it appears to have been a totally independent glasshouse/studio in Montreal during the same era as Lorraine and Chalet. I have had a purple ashtray and a purple cigar bowl but know someone who has a huge long arm stretch with the engraved Canada Art. I have no idea how many furnaces they had or the length of time that they were in business. Would love to find out more though - some of their pieces are rather clunky but others so finely done. I bought both the pieces I had by mistake thinking they were Chalet - not till later did I see the engraved signature.
