Did Lorraine do uranium pieces?
Hello,
I got a new piece this past weekend. It has the round "Made in Canada" sticker on it. The seller said it was Chalet, but I'm convinced it's Lorraine. He also said it had uranium. He showed a picture of it glowing a somewhat bright green under a black light. Did Lorraine have uranium pieces?

shipping
Hi, I won't usually buy from across the border unless they are willing send thru USPS as there are usually less extra dollars added on at the border. I also have bought something for very cheap and had the "handleing fee" added on that was 4 times the amout that the purchase was. I ask right up front about sending it my way and explain thet there are extra fees when sent UPS or Fedex to Canada and have had a few people say that they weren't aware of such high extra charges. Most will work with you so it NEVER hurts to ask.

no re Lorraine uranium
Hi Pierre,
You are right - this is a Lorraine piece. And no - Lorraine did not do uranium pieces. Many, many components (even urine) will glow under UV - especially weakly so he is probably right re the glow - just not what causing it. Uranium is the knock your socks off bright "lime" flourescing. Also will register with a geiger counterLOL
The Chalet pieces that go crazy re uranium content are the "icy" blue (looks 2 tone) like your fingertip and the orange with the red rimming. Put examples of both colouring in the "Shapes & Colours" - used for the colour. However, most of Chalet will glow weakly - maganese is present in so many of the pieces and that's what I suspect most people mistake for uranium - especially in Lorraine pieces. With the lead content in Chalet - amazing that the uranium present is able to glow at all. Let alone the "firecracker" light ups of some Chalet pieces.
Even some of the perfectly "clear" Chalet crystal pieces will glow. And as you know - after 1968 Chalet had no option but to produce those colours without using depleted uranium because of Canada falling in with the ban. This signed and stickered Chalet "swan" - I was sure it was going to light up like crazy as all my other Chalet pieces coloured like this do but nope - so must be post '68.

Magnesium
I also find that Lorraine used magnesium in many of their orange/red pieces. Most of my Lorraine ones will have that orange outline.
