Chalet sea shells Empty Chalet sea shells

Post  Thumper Fri Mar 28, 2014 2:30 am

Hi Deborah,
Have you ever seen or heard of Chalet making a seashell? I bought a glass seashell from a seller here in Manitoba. Why I think it may be Chalet is that it has a very
thick clear casing at one end(coiled end) and is the same yellow color as some of my other pieces through the rest of it. Its about 12" long, 8" wide, 5" tall, and weighs almost 8 pounds. I've looked through many pics of Murano glass but there isn't anything like it there . I'll have to get my friend to take a pic of it and put it on my flickr page. Just thought I'd ask ahead of time.
Thanks Bob

I know there are Murano seashells and new ones that are made in some origin. I have one like you are describing with the twisted end its a newer piece.
How is the base on it ?

Chalet sea shells Empty Chalet did do shells

Post  deborah Fri Mar 28, 2014 10:13 am

Hi Bob,

Yes - they did do shells. Both large and small. I have a picture of one that will hunt up and post here when I find it. The smaller ones were open and came in 3 sizes while the larger ones were closed. look very Murano.

Chalet sea shells Empty Chalet Seashell?

I found this shell a little while ago and it never even crossed my mind as being Chalet, but after seeing your photos it seems to be a very similar shape.  Do you think it is Chalet or Murano?

Thanks

Chalet sea shells Empty don't know

Hi Kevin,

Welcome! I can not say definitively whether your shell is Murano or Chalet. I am leaning toward Murano because of the colour combo. The "tail" is also different from the stickered piece shown here but that can't really be used as the defining factor as see belwo - the tail on this smaller "bonboniere" Chalet shell is similar to your piece.

Sorry could not rule one way or the other.

Thanks for your input. The color combo definitely struck me as Murano as well.
