Can you tell them apart?
Hi there,
Both Chalet and Lorraine did this style of long arm stretches. This is a Lorraine piece - very typical colour combo for Lorraine. Here is a picture from the new "Chalet Marks, Labels and Product Lines" reference book from the "Similar yet Different Quiz" showing a Lorraine piece and a Chalet piece. Which is which?

purple
Hi again,
This colour combo is very common for Lorraine. I have never seen a pure purple marked Lorraine piece. I have attached another Lorraine piece that is commonly seen in this blue/purple color combo. The new book also has a section on "Similar yet Different" glasshouses - covers Lorraine, Mosaic, EDAG, Rossi and Altaglass re identifying etc. You might find it helpful as EDAG in particular is always called Chalet (so many EDAG poieces on e-bay right now misidentified) and Lorraine very seldom identified properly either.

You will find some purple Chalet pieces - they were a "mistake". Again - from the new book on page 32. These are signed Chalet pieces and this is the section re "Chalet Seconds":

okay Deb
Okay so tell me about the different glass houses...Chalet was first? then some of the Chalet staff were spirited away to Lorraine..right? But how does Edag fit into this?
I am getting to recognize Lorraine by its squat feet for the most part.
When you say Murano...do you mean the piece was made in Italy or is that also a glass house or description of a style?
It all a learning curve for me...I'm glad I have a group like this to help me.Thanx so much
ps: why doesn't anyone collect Lorraine...I like Lorraine....why is it less diserable than Chalet? Chalet had 24% lead and Lorraine only 18%...true??

Lorraine
Who says nobody collects Lorraine? My collection is mostly Lorraine I like it better than Chalet.I have a suspected pure purple or Alexandrite Loraine Ashtray on my Flickr. It can be your treasure hunt to find the picture.I love Edag too like Deb said it's never identified correctly on EBay.

hello Glassman...thank you for the answers...:)
I like Lorraine too....actually sometimes better than Chalet but I need to be able to tell the diff. I think Lorraine mostly by those squat feet?? at least for me that is a telltale sign but take my burgundy one, it has no feet and you thought it is Lorraine - so why? what else is there that says Lorraine?
My Edag I think b/c of the pulled loops on the blue one and those sharp feet like on my little mini edag...whatelse says Edag?
I look forward to both your and Deb's thoughts.....

Lorraine
I will try to put it into words for you.....Your piece is for sure Lorraine look at the overall shape the arms are a different shape than a Chalet piece. Also the groves in the side of the base is a tell tail sign. The colour combo is Lorraine. I've seen the one you've got in so many colours I guess after you've seen several hundred pieces you get a feel for it. Edag those ones have the weird colour combos green and orange blue and amber etc etc. The cut out loops are common with Edag too or the twisty pulled ends. The coin shaped base the clear feet that come down from the sides. Those are common Edag bases. Also too the feathers, chalet dis some too but Edag are more like wings.I should mention Lorraine has those big thumb print indents in the base, you see those alot. Lorraine pieces also go from blue on the bottom to green at the top. Where as a Chalet piece in those colours is Green on bottom blue on the top. Just watch the posts of pieces that break that rule now lol.

Re: what do you think this might be??
That purple one of yours is really nice. I've had 4 like that one deep dark red one tri colour and two in that steely green grey colour. I kept one of those it's on my flickr page. Whenever I see that shape it's always an exceptional colour. Your other piece the 6 arm one is nice too, those are way more common with Lorraine then Chalet.
