As a collector, I stay away from pieces with chips, even along the bottom edge. What do others think about pieces with small chips out of the base? Would you consider buying a piece with a small chip in the base? Could you overlook the chips if it was a unique piece?

Or perhaps you don't care. I was at an auction once and the auctioneer said the piece was chipped but fortunately that was the side that goes against the wall.

On a similar vein do scratches in a piece matter to you? Scratches on the bottom don't bother me but visible scratches on the surface of the glass really detract from my interest in the piece.

Any thoughts?

if its a regular piece and u can easily find another then prob hang out for a non chipped but if its a rarer color or piece personally i dont think it matters that much these are antique pieces nothin is perfect anyway if people want a perfect piece then they need to go to HOMESENSE and buy a crap glass vase low quality for same price or more LOL as long as its not a huge flaw then it doesnt matter in my books

What is your feeling about chipped bases? Empty depends

Hi guys,

If there are fleabites on the base - doesn't bother me. Chips on the flat of the base - do not care. If a "chip" is along the edge - than I would prefer not to buy but have if it is rare or if I really wanted. I have even bought a piece with a chip on the front as I had never seen it before. Scratches - I do avoid like chips.Have learned to check with my fingers as well as eyes as sometimes so hard to see when in a shop or if the piece is at all dirty or dusty.

It just depends, if it distracts from the piece in any way I won't buy it. If it's hardly noticeable and a nice piece use the chip to get a better price.I refuse to buy anything that has been broken and polished. That glass has zero value to me.
