Chalet bowl with 4 curls in cranberry/pink Empty Chalet bowl with 4 curls in cranberry/pink

Hi,

I ran into this beautiful piece this weekend. Although I have several similar pieces in different colors (e.g. yellow, blue, red, orange) I have never seen it before in this nice color.
What do you think? Am I correct that this is a Chalet piece? There is no label or signature on it, so I guess we have to rely on the shape of the base.

This is the detail of the base:

Similar to what I have seen on other art glass items (e.g. Alta Glass) this piece has a pattern on the glass in the curled tops, but not on the inside of the base or on the outside. When you move your finger over it you can feel the pattern, so it's not side the glass.
Please see the detail. Is this done on purpose by the maker, or is it considered some sort of damage e.g. from direct sunlight?

Thanks so much,
Olaf

Chalet bowl with 4 curls in cranberry/pink Empty definitely Chalet

Hi Olaf,

Your piece is Chalet. I do not know what has caused the texturing as very hard to see from the pics. However, unlike Altaglass which will eventually turn back into sand from direct sunlight (due to the way it was made) Chalet is not usually affected by direct sunlight. It looks like maybe it was exposed to something corrosive? Could it be caused by cleaning products. Like I said - can't really offer an opinion from the pics. Need to "meet" this one in person!

Yeah, this is indeed quite a piece even though it appears to be "less flawless" as other Chalet pieces.

@Deb: Did you click on the photo(s) for a larger size? I can even post an even larger picture of that helps with identifying whether this is intentional or not. As said, it only shows in the "arms" but not at the base where they come together. Do you know Chalet even made pieces with such an pattern on it? As all my other Chalet pieces I have are all "smooth" I thought it was interesting, but am not convinced yet this is "damage". It certainly is different...

You've been running into slot of pieces hope you didn't hurt yourself lol, kidding. It looks like somethings on the glass can you clean it off? Or perhaps someone has scratched it with something. Glass turning into dust? Lol I think that an urban legend. Lol kinda like Loc Ness Monster. But not big foot he's real lol.

Hi again,

I did not know you could enlarge by clicking on pics - thank you! As soon as I did - saw so much clearly. Not damage - I think this is an "a ghiaccio" piece - hot piece was iced in cold water to give crackle effect. Chalet used this technique on their oranges and lemons. Have never seen before on one of the others but since the cranberry in the large pieces were done at end of day to use up colour - makes sense the artists would try this on a piece like this. They considered the big cranberry pieces "seconds" and were amazed when I told them how collectible they are. Another one to show them! Amazing. Here is my lemon with that effect - given to me by Maestro Gatto.

So much Chalet envy. Incredible find!

Chalet bowl with 4 curls in cranberry/pink Empty Interesting

Thanks so much for the explanation, that explains a lot. And... learned yet another thing! Surprised
I was already wondering if it was intentional, but now I know. Also, interesting to know they consider this "seconds" and that they were made at the end of the day based on the color.
Now I certainly will be looking even harder for this kind of color.

Thanks for all the responses!
