NEW CHALET COLLECTOR! HERE ARE SOME OF MY PIECES THOUGH SOME I THINK ARE NOT LET ME KNOW THOUGHTS Empty Welcome and my thoughts

Post  deborah Wed Mar 14, 2012 9:29 am

Hi Bradley,

Welcome to the forum and to collecting Chalet - it's addictive.

Here are my thoughts on your pieces - blue EDAG (see my "potato chip" post), red EDAG, red EDAG, pink Czech, 2 tone basket Lorraine or EDAG, chartreuse Murano, olive green Chalet, 2 tone stretch Lorraine and lastly Murano vase.

If you want more info re Lorraine and EDAG (other Canadian Italian glasshouses of the seame era and origin) see pages in the site as well as the Chalet reference guide on marks, labels and products and "The Shapes and Colours of Chalet Art Glass" book.

Love the basket - stunning! Also love the red EDAG pieces - I have quite a few EDAG pieces and they made stunning glass - except their pieces with the round "coin" shaped base - they are awkward.

We'll see how everyone else weighs in re what they think. ID's are fun but easier in person.
Deborah

Hi again Bradley,

I have the red one like yours (bottom left in pic) in my personal collection - signed as well. That colour very rare for Chalet - true fire engine red.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Your amber bowl is by Lorraine Glass Industries - catalog number B819. I've seen it in olive green as well as 2 tone red and blue like your 2 butt ashtray which is also Lorraine. They did that colour combo quite frequently. Your 2 tone amber and green is EDAG - signature base for them. Absolutely stunning piece. Gorgeous collection - great pics! Glad to see you found them easy to post. Sometimes frustrating to figure out the first time.

NEW CHALET COLLECTOR! HERE ARE SOME OF MY PIECES THOUGH SOME I THINK ARE NOT LET ME KNOW THOUGHTS Empty not surprising

Post  deborah Wed Mar 14, 2012 12:33 pm

Hey Bradley,

Alot of Chalet in Australia - they distributed from Africa for a short time. Also Canadian envoys took some there - funny story told to me about that from Ed Lumley (from Cornwall and was a high ranking Liberal) who was speaking to the Australian parliament on a trip there to promote Canadian relations and products. It was one of their first stops and they hadn't checked the boxes to see which Chalet pieces they were presenting to the Prime Minister. Turned out it was a cranberry bull and since the government at the time was socialist - was quite funny as he made a joke about "pink glass/pink government" so was able to recover his wits. Mr. Lumley said they made darn sure after that that they opened the boxes before they went into a reception.

Not surprising that you are drawn to all 3 companies - all the artists from Murano and many worked at both Lorraine and Chalet and Maestro Gatto even worked at EDAG when he first came to Canada. Again - if you want to learn more, see the book, reference guide and site. I collect mostly Chalet (163 pieces) but have some Lorraine and EDAG that I count among my favorites and a few Murano and Czech. See the "Showcasing" pages in the site for some pictures. I collect, as do most, what moves me.

So pleased you are enjoying the forum so quickly!

NEW CHALET COLLECTOR! HERE ARE SOME OF MY PIECES THOUGH SOME I THINK ARE NOT LET ME KNOW THOUGHTS Empty site sections

Post  deborah Wed Mar 14, 2012 6:07 pm

Hey,

Go to the site home page and see headers "About Chalet" for a summary of "Chalet Marks and Product lines" and "Similar yet Different" glasshouses - not as complete as books but still full of info. Lots of other info there as well re the artists, Chalet's history, the 2010 exhibit etc.

The header "Your Collection" has the pages "Showcasing" and "Some Favourites" which will show you some of my collection and display hints (I am an interior designer in my non-Chalet life) as well as some care and handling hints.

the "Glossary" header takes you to pages re glass making?Chalet terms.

Hi Bradley,

Go to [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] - it will take you to the splash page and then after you enter you will be on the Home Page and you will see all the pages. The forum is attached to the site. The site is a totally different Web site.
