Since we were discussing the Seal with Glassman, I have an unmarked piece.

Is this Chalet? Empty gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey again,

What a wonderful piece - in my opinion I think it is an EDAG vase. Base is typical of their pieces, colour right and they really love that treatment. Here's a pic with 3 of my vases - EDAG (left), Chalet (center) and Lorraine (right). What do you think?

The second pic also shows an EDAG vase - back right.

Is this Chalet? Empty Beautiful!

Post  queenoftheroad Mon Nov 28, 2011 12:59 am

Deborah,

Wow! Your collection is lovely. The pictures are terrific too.
I can see why it's quite difficult to differentiate between them because they are quite similar but there are subtle differences between them.
I knew mine wasn't chalet because of the base and the color (it's darker compared to another amber chalet I have)...

However, it is a lovely piece. I do like it. Thank you for identifying it Deborah!

PS. that chalet is signed and has a paper tag on it. althought the writing is no longer visible, I do believe it is an inventory sticker.

Is this Chalet? Empty stand by my EDAG

Post  deborah Mon Nov 28, 2011 11:29 am

Hey guys,

I agree with you Glassman that hard to id but am going to "stand by my EDAG"LOL re Queen's vase and my one on the left - base and treatment reasons why. In fact, I am going to say your blue vase is EDAG as well based on the same reasons. Orange piece, like you say, definitely because of the vase and treatment too. Both Lorraine and EDAG did amazing vases - I think maybe more imaginative than the some of the production vases Chalet did. However, than round coin base that EDAG used, like the one on the small orange and crystal vase (right) in the second picture, is so ugly. Not a graceful way to finish a piece and on that piece in particular because it was quite small - very, very awkward looking.

Re EDAG - they stayed in business for several years in Montreal after Chalet and Lorraine closed. They were the last "significant" Italian Canadian glasshouse of that era. Other smaller places and individuals obviously but none that had the production numbers that EDAG did at that time. Really liking their glass - except pieces with that round base.

Is this Chalet? Empty what dod you think of these

Post  deborah Mon Nov 28, 2011 12:13 pm

Hi again,

Continuing the ???????????????? - who do you think made these? Obviously the vase in the center is Chalet but it's the astrays on the right and left and then the blue one in the last pic that I'm asking about.

Is this Chalet? Empty Edag

Post  Glassman Mon Nov 28, 2011 11:14 pm

I meant to say i think hers is Edag, but i still think yours is Lorraine based on the top points.I also think mine is lorraine bases on the points as well.In the Lorraine cataloge their are many round base vases. It's just my opinion if i saw it in person maybe i would feel differently. You have an amber piece on your site with the same points as that vase we are taking about.Like i said it's only a guess.
What do you all think this one is?

The one with the bubbles is Lorraine the green and amber one is Edag the big amber one is Edag, and the small one with the curl is Chalet. The blue one is hard to tell Lorraine or Czech maybe.

Is this Chalet? Empty still EDAG

Post  deborah Mon Nov 28, 2011 11:26 pm

Hey again,

I just checked out all the Lorraine pages I have and still think your vase and now the blue bowl EDAG. Lorraine did not do those "feather" marks I don't think. I think that's more of a tell than the base. So I still have to be a glass "Tammy Wynette" and stand by EDAG.

So you think Queen's vase EDAG too.

Really enjoying the Chalet/Lorraine/EDAG triadLOL Who do you think did the ashtrays I posted above?

Is this Chalet? Empty Lorraine

Post  Glassman Tue Nov 29, 2011 3:59 am

Fun times for sure,if you look at the blue basket on the cover of the Lorraine catalogue it has those groves you call feathers lol. They are much less feather like than say that little orange basket you got from me.Also in the same catalogue their is a orange vase in the back that is close to both yours and mine. That's why I think they are Lorraine. They are so close in style it could be either. But check out that cover picture, let me know what you think.

Is this Chalet? Empty not Alta

Post  deborah Tue Nov 29, 2011 10:56 am

Hi,

The blue ashtray is definitely not Altaglass - not greasy and not the right colour or shape/style or size and it is very heavily cased crystal. I think it is Chalet. And I think the ashtrays above are EDAG and the blue Chalet is where they got their inspiration from.

I think I will take to the artists on next trip for even more opinionLOL. Now along with the great debate on Canada Art we have the Chalet/Lorraine/EDAG triangle.

Still don't think those marks on the vases and your blue bowl are Lorraine - I have put every piece of Lorraine I have beside every piece I think is EDAG and gotten out all the catalogues and just "don't get a Lorraine vibe" from them. I will send to W. - maybe he will give us an opinion.
