Killer vases Empty interesting discussion

Post  treckers Tue Nov 29, 2011 12:09 am

Hello Glassman and Deborah,

I have been watching with great interest the information that has come to light on the forum about the different glass houses that were of this era. Very interesting thread and what I find most intriguing is that I gather that the glass from all these companies was actually made by the same but shifting group of artists as they moved from one company to another. Obviously different marketing in each of these companies and different distributors drove what they did or didn't do - with the exception of non-production pieces. As opposed to limitations of skill and vision. It would be most illuminating if it were possible to have a variety of catalogues from each to compare simultaneously. However, then we wouldn't have the opportunity to test ourselves with these identification mysteries.

Yes I totally agree with you.I think they made styles that they were good at and were popular. That's why there are so many simularities. Like I said some pieces will never be 100 percent identified.

Killer vases Empty right on

Post  deborah Tue Nov 29, 2011 11:02 am

Hey,

Yup - I agree too. And it is one thing to get the artists to be able to say whether or onot they made a piece - that not difficult. However, as we get insistent about "Where" they made it - very often a different story. Quite often I hear "Don't remember" after quite a bit of debate. Colour (not bases) is the one constant - they can rule things in or out much more easily based on it.
